It’s been a while since I’ve blogged.  I have been quite busy with my college classes starting up again. I recently did another DIY project and felt the need to share it with you.

Now I am not a big coffee drinker but I do drink a lot of tea.  I see these sharpie mug ideas online ALL the time and I just think they are so cute looking so I wanted to try it out for myself.

I bought some plain white mugs at Walmart for a few dollars.  I also used a green soup bowl that I’ve had around my house for a while.  I then picked up some oil based sharpie markers at Micheal’s but you can get them at any craft store.  Make sure you use oil based markers because regular sharpies will not hold.  I began to peruse the internet for sayings or designs that I liked.  I have always liked paper airplanes.  So I decided to use that design.  I also chose some sayings that I thought fit the mood of a coffee mug.

How do you make them?  First, you will want to get your design or create your design (I am not that talented at drawing).  First outline it in pencil to insure that there won’t be any mistakes while drawing your actual design with marker.  Then go over it with the marker.  This step is very important; don’t preheat the oven before putting the mugs in the oven otherwise they will crack.  So just pop them in the oven and then let them heat up in the oven at 350 degrees F for 30 mins.  You also have to let them cool down with the oven after the 30 mins.  You may want to bake twice to insure extra hold.

When you are done they are on there for good.  But unfortunately you can’t put them in the dishwasher, they are hand wash only which I was pretty gutted about.  I get pretty lazy and like to just throw my dishes in the dishwasher and be done with them.  There is however certain “glass markers” that you can use for this sort of project.  They are called, DecoArt markers.  You can find them at any craft store as well, but they are a little on the pricey side…for me anyway.

I think this is something fun to do with your friends…or by yourself as I did.  You can make them as gifts for friends or family or just use them around your own house!  Have fun and tag me(or whatever it’s called) on Instagram (coldpizza77) or leave a reply to this blog so I can see your creations.

I hope you are all having a wonderful day…well night because it is currently 1 AM.  I like that late night writing.  Ok. Bye =)
